Looking for beautiful weather, good food, good wine and the good life
A confluence of circumstances and events made us decide in autumn 2021 to sell our house in Arnhem the Netherlands. There we had lived for 20 years. With a wish list for a new place, we went ‘On the Bonnefooi’ for France. We wanted to find a new house and a new place.
To have a flexible place for our search, we bought a caravan and left for the Dordogne in spring 2022. We looked at dozens of houses and locations with many different estate agents but could not succeed. It turned out to be more difficult than we thought. Along the way we changed our wish list several times.
A second go
The winter of 2022, it was too cold for us in the caravan and with many French campsites closed, we headed for Portugal and Spain to spend the winter. There, beyond expectations, we had a wonderful time, saw a lot, experienced a lot and also met a lot of nice people. As soon as the weather allowed and campsites opened again, we returned to France in early 2023 to continue our search with confidence.
Success
On 4 May 2023, during one of the many viewings we knew immediately, this is it. We made an offer after a second viewing a day later, which was accepted. On 13 July 2023, we received the keys. Our ideas of running a Chambres d’Hôtes and meeting even more nice people are possible here, we think and hope.
We also found here the peace and space we were looking for. After up-dating the upper floor, we now have three rooms and two bathrooms that we would like to rent out to anyone who, like us, is looking for peace, space, beautiful weather, good food, good wine and the good life here in Lembras, near Bergerac in the Dordogne, France.
